Artists Statement: In my opinion, Persian art is not well known in the art community of the united states. It also seems that most persian artists have forgotten the genteel roots of traditional Persian painting. As a Persian fine artist, I would like to expose as many people as possible to the deeper joys of Persian painting- which is too often labeled as "precious" and meaningless. As I am also interested in exploring contemporary art, I would like to use traditional Persian painting method in exploration of contemporary art. In my method I use traditional motives as a basis, then transform into creative new elements seen more in relation to modern times. I intend to target American artists who are interested in learning about Persian painting and how it's traditional eastern style can be adapted and used in contemporary art. It is also my intention that this eastern style of painting should have appeal among the general public. Everyone can see and enjoy fine art in many different styles. It is known that Persian paintings are generally constrained to small sheets of high quality paper, however, I use big sheets and sometimes canvas as I change the small elements and details into larger, stronger graphics. I also use traditional colors, forms, patterns, and symbols- adapting them into my own new style. My paintings usually are based on stories. I can say every picture tells a story, so I sometimes consider myself a story teller. When I have a story in my mind or have a vision, I start to do different scathes to catch the best version of what is in my mind. After completing some scathes, I stop and evaluate my work- considering both the physical quality of the painting and it's relevance to my vision. The compositions of my works are mostly shown on spirals and the main subject is placed in the center. Perspective is shown using simple outlines. I use acrylic and extensive use of gold and silver leaf for the base, then apply water color with the use of a very fine brush for the details. I draw inspiration from nature and the surrounding world.
